Kate Plus 8 Axed: Will You Miss The Gosselin Clan?
After a (long) spell in the white-hot spotlight, Kate Gosselin, the mother who came into our homes with her eight kids as part of her eponymous show on TLC, is about to sink back into obscurity.
Yesterday TLC executives announced they had had enough of Kate Plus 8 and judging by the show’s declining ratings the viewing public had too!
For me, Kate Gosselin was an enigma if I ever saw one. Two things surprised me about her; how she went so far on so little talent and the emotion she evoked from supporters and detractors alike.
I first became aware of Kate while watching her show as I was trapped on an airplane. Back then the show was called Jon And Kate Plus 8 of course, and included her now ex-husband Jon Gosselin. But Kate yelled at Jon like he was the hired help, the first thing that made me dislike her. Their marriage and divorce made the duo supermarket tabloid fodder; and at the height of her fame, you couldn’t run to the store for a stick of butter without Kate staring back at you from the checkout lane.
I’ve spent a lot of time in television and I truly believe the camera doesn’t lie. What I saw when I watched Kate, was someone whose world ended at the tip of her nose. It was ALWAYS about her. She treated nearly everyone around her like crap; whether they were there to help or they had more intimate dealings with her (like her ex) they were all bit players in a production that revolved around her. But perhaps the most distasteful thing about Kate was that she was so damn ungrateful, pointed out beautifully by my work husband Richard Drew in a post he wrote last year.
I could go on about the days I spent with Kate, shooting a pilot, and the things she did to back up the initial opinion I formed of her – but why bother? It’s over now; the show and Kate Gosselin overstayed their welcome and it’s time to sign off. And while I wish her the best, I for one can’t say I’m sorry to see her go.

I SO agree. She is totally talentless. She fooled a lot of people. Fooled me for awhile. She wonders why she can’t get a man? Anyone who watches even one of the past shows would know why. I am totally sick of her and all her lies she tells. She can’t remember what she does say from one interview to another. I HOPE I don’t’ see her again. I HOPE she gets the help those kids are going to need. Enough of this pity party she has. She has millions. I do not feel sorry for her at all. ENOUGH.

I agree with you Rene! Besides her being mean to her husband, the tone of voice she talks to the kids in is horrible…it was hard to watch!
I did watch the episode (one of the few that I did) in Alaska with Sarah Palin. It rained yet the kids were having a blast, but she packed them all in because SHE was cold & wet…she was crying! The best example of it being all about HER…pathetic! -
Children are not a commodity to have their childhood’s sold to the highest bidder. I was a fan of the Gosselin show. I stopped supporting the show after the divorce was well publicized.
The cameras don’t lie Rene…and I truly felt Kate Gosselin showed us a side of motherhood that we as mom’s don’t want to strive for.
The show which was filmed in Pennsylvania did not adhere in the beginning to any child labor laws on the books- by the PA dol’s own failings admitted in various public hearings. At first the Gosselin children were not even paid to work on the show, or to sell advertiser’s products….their images are on the internet for the entire world & every pedophile to see…their private moments exploited, the labels the children were given- Let’s face it mom’s….sitcom characters play a role they get to go home…not reality tv children…they play themselves!
I wish the Gosselin children all the happiness in the world. I hope to never see them on television for the rest of their childhood.
As for Kate, hey Gem was fired from CBS and she made lemonade out of lemons. More power to her BUT leave the kids alone. They get one childhood and then it is over…let them live it.

ITA – this has been nothing but a modern day verison of the Dionne Quintuplets – she needs to leave those kids off television and let them finally have their lives back.
She stole and sold out their childhoods… and for what? A huge mansion she cannot afford? A fake tan and appearance that aged her beyond her actual years? A reputation worldwide as a b*tch and rude ungrateful person?
No child should work in the entertainment industry without proper emotional, physical and financial protections – it is a sad state of affairs when the ASPCA rules/regs ensure the animals used in a production are better cared for than the children!

I love these articles from people who are not part of the blogging world. These are not people who comment daily about this witch. These are people who worked with her and saw her. She has lied so many times she can’t even remember how to keep her lies straight.
She is on the warpath. She trashed Kevin last night and continues to trash Jon with her comments about how much hell they had put her through. She had the nerve to say Kevin went to the media as though he were scum, when she does the very same thing every chance she gets. Why does she think it can only be her way?
I predict this woman ‘will not go quietly into that good night’. It is going to get VERY nasty, very quickly. At least the show is over and she no longer will have that bully pulpit to beat people over the heads with.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.

I only watched a few episodes of this show but still I seem to know too much about this family. The mention above that Kate is talentless ..really? Hello idiot, she ISN’T an actor, she is a reality TV “star”. Talent isn’t a requirement to be on reality TV. I agree these kids need time away from the camera, but what happens next? How will they pay for the private school, that house, the bus they require just to transport themselves to the store? Forget how they are going to pay for proms, weddings, and most importantly college. I’m not sure what is worse, plastering these kids all over the Internet, TV, and tabloids or not having the financial where-with-all to support them. Even if both of them worked full time I just don’t see how they would make ends meet.
Regarding Kate’s parenting skills, who out there knows what sort of parent you would be if you had 8 kids. Maybe she is self-centered; I don’t know her. Maybe she has used the kids to gain fame; but when she decided to carry all 8 babies I highly doubt fame was the reason for that decision. Maybe she did talk to Jon like he was an idiot; what came first the behavior or the talk?

So Kate’s challenge to the “haters” that they’d change their minds about her if they had the chance to meet her is more of her bull. Why am I not surprised. Enough of her dealings with others is shown on her shows and other venues for most of us to see that her reputation is not a “media creation” as she claims. She’s mean, rude, cold and vengeful. Her recent tweets about her ex more than prove that. I hope those kidsa are able to get out from under her control and go live with their dad. He’s not perfect, by a long stretch, but at least he loves them and allows them to be kids.

Thank you for writing this article. I agree with everything you state. Just today Kate twittered that people don’t like her because we the public don’t know her. Kate stated we only know the “media creation and not her. This is insane. We saw the real Kate on 150 plus episodes of her show. We saw her on numerous tv talk shows. Believe me Kate, we saw the REAL you and the public doesn’t like you.
Renee, Kate has taken to tweeter and she tweets somedays 50 to 125 tweets a day with tweens and teens who adore her and praise her. She loves it. She says so herself. She is a sick narcissict person who needs help.
She is a multi-millionaire. Kate you have lots of money from selling your children’s every move for the past 6 years. Kate say at home, get therapy, and get off of tweeter. You sound like a self-absorbed nut on tweeter.

I to watched Jon and Kate in the early years. But after a while with all the screaming from her and the kids it just was not watchable anymore. She likes to claim that she really is a nice person. Ha. No one that she lives near, or waits on her in any local stores has anything nice to say about. Kate the millionaire, this weeks accepts a starbucks gift card from a “fan”. How greedy. Any bets that she didn’t pay it back in kindness to anyone? She is all about me. Every tweet since the cancellation has been about her. No tweets about how she will spend more time focusing on helping the kids enter the new school year. She didn’t even bother to tell Jon, so they could together work through this change in their kids lives.
I think any network that even touches her in the next 6 months is doomed. She is just not looked at in a favorable light except for the few fans and young girls that “love” and idolize her. I doubt any network has any desire to employee those kids again, there is just too much damage being done to them and hopefully if there was any interest, it would have to be agreed upon by both parents.
Rene, if you have facts about how she has acted, please share. The fans just don’t believe she doesn’t walk on water. All the evidence is on tape, yet they refuse to believe what they have seen with their own eyes. The motto is, if Kate’s lips are moving, she’s lying. As evidenced recently resurfaced in August 2009 she stated that the kids already had substantial college funds. But just a few weeks ago on Today Show or Access Hollywood, she claiming they don’t have nearing enough. I just hope all of the kids assets are out of her reach and cannot be touched by anyone until they are 18. She doesn’t even tell the truth about all of the obvious surgeries she’s had. She’s had a least one, and probably 2 boob jobs, teeth done, lazy eye fixed. Botox when she was walking about with her eyebrows half way up her forehead. The lies are just to many and too frequent. I do fear for the kids that live with her daily rage. She is not all sweetness and kindness and never has been a huggy loving mother. She is a cold bitch. Her children are fearful of her, you can often see it in their eyes. Just glad for them school is only a few short weeks away. They will have 10 hours of freedom from her per day. Gee Kate – 10 hours a day – guess what, you can get a JOB. No nanny needed. Kate won’t, she’s lazy looking for easy handouts. She wants a TV career, what has she done to prepare. Has she taken any speaking classes, medial, advertising, marketing courses at a local school. She has plenty of free time when the kids are in school. She cries to her twitter fans about the stupidest stuff. Her drying isn’t working, well golly gosh, you have another one in the same room. The rest of the world would have to drag their heavy wet laundry to the laundry mart to dry. She just has no appreciation for the gifts you have been given. (Sorry for the long rant – it is just too easy once you start.)

Right on Paula. Her followers were obviously spoiled teenagers and women that have been scorned. Most people can see right through this fake. I find it disgusting that she insults people’s intelligence. I stopped watching her show when Jon left. I used to like Kate in the beginning but now I can’t stomach her.

This was a very well written truthful article.
Judging a channel by the type of shows they broadcast, it would appear that the options for her to remain ‘in the business’ would be minimal. Most channels should not want to touch her with a 30′ pole (carried on her kids proverbial ‘golden platter’).
It is a pity that no one has been able to get it through to her that she can’t have it both ways, the kids are NOT working, just happen to be on camera in the course of their everyday lives BUT SHE IS WORKING, has a career that she is NOW going to further in the entertainment field BUT SHE is NOT acting, SHE IS being herself BUT the cameras are portraying her as a bitch. You would think she would have shown pity for the kids when they were seasick as the way she ‘spins’ the truth and her words, she MUST feel seasick half the time.
She MAY NOT have needed talent for her ‘self-being’ on camera BUT for anything else in ‘show bidness’ talent is a requirement. She cannot act, speak properly, shows no emotion (dead eyes), memorize lines (can’t keep track of her OWN lies), carry on an intelligent conversation, has no poise, poor posture, walks like a cow and name one other person on camera who is EVER, let alone consistently, caught chomping on a wad of gum. And as far as her trying to get her kids into show business, the twins were already turned down several years ago when they were the younger, cuter age, and now NONE of the kids have the ‘look’, ‘personality’, or ‘talent’ to even consider them getting into show business. Talent agents aren’t looking for the ‘gosselin kid-type’ for any upcoming show premises. For pete’s sake, they didn’t even make it on their OWN show.
Someone hit her upside the head with a gold-plated two by four and tell her she’s done, through, over, finished…

What I have found most fascinating in the whole Kate/Jon situation is the absolute double standard that woman place on Kate. Just like the above comment that people need to stop bashing Jon. Kate has hate blogs on the internet that spend all day every day saying nasty,deragatory comments against Kate while hailing Jon as a saint which by the way Jon and his gf Ellen are friends with most of them. These people spend the majority of their day trying to bring Kate down,they e-mail any show or endorsement she may be a part of and threaten to boy-cott their company or product if she is a part of it and from what I read Jon and Ellen give them their aprroval. The last time I tried to comment on Kate on here I was attacked by some of the Kate haters and had to ask Rene to remove my comments. I am not a fan of Kate, never have been. What I am is a big non-fan of bullying and that is what these people do.If Kate is a no-talent b….. and managed to con TLC out of a few million, good on her. If she is not a good mother than she will have to answer for that, the same way we will all have to answer for whatever mistakes we all may make in raising our children. I respect people who do not agree with or like Kate, I do not respect the hate,the campaign to stop any job opportunities she may have, the villifying of Kate and the sainting of Jon,because there are always two sides too every story. Also please do not call me a sheeple.I am an intelligent woman who has a right to an opinion the same as anyone else.

Kate is fading fast. She was not mentioned once on any of the gossip shows today. They have normally kisser her butt, never confronted her or asked her any serious questions. Kate will not find work in TV, she cannot speak intelligently. Every interview is filled with ums and honestly. Any one that says honestly that much is always lying. She cannot keep her lies strait.

Kate is a psycho. Her husband left her. She was a dancing broomstick on Dancing with the Stars. She was a psycho on an episode of Sarah Palin’s Alaska (in the rain). Oh, my, what a psycho!! And she was a psycho to her own sister. She is a basket case. No wonder she has so many kids. She probably needs validation of some sort. Unfortunately, at what cost?

Some of her supporters have seen the light in the last few episodes of the show, in that Kate is just not a nice person to be around. Can you imagine the real stories Ashley could tell, because she has been there. She probably won’t speak the full truth, because she does love the kids. The truly blind fans blame it on editing. Hate to tell them, but you cannot edit what isn’t there to begin with. Kate loudly freaks out over what the “body guard” is going to eat vs her own friend, nanny and children. Now picture of her and her new Audi has surfaced and she is soooo smart to the industry, she is claiming Chris from INF had these pictures months ago but was holding them until they became worth more. In one respect that could be true, because pictures of her in the last months have been worthless. On one hand, Jon has gained a lot of new supporters, they see what he truly lived, living with that beast that could explode over almost anything and everything if she didn’t get her way. Then the delusional fans are horrified over Jon’s interview where he did not bash Kate personally. He did not talk about HER luxury car that is useless except as her toy. She can’t go grocery shopping for a family of 9 or a Costco run. She does not have a job that she is commuting to 30 or 40 miles each way, so the gas mileage is pure bull shit. Kate admit you wanted a toy and so you bought one. She probably thinks it’s sexy. Kate is just one of those people that thinks her shit don’t stink. But in the end, karma will bite her in the ass. Her kids will have nothing to do with her as soon as they are legally able to. All her hate and jealousy towards Jon is saved forever in cyberspace. Kate is not intelligent. She is lazy. She admits she doesn’t even read a newspaper. She does not relate well to her children. On the RV trip she brought DVDs to occupy their time. What happened to having them read books, or draw or puzzles or a few family games. No wonder the kids are so unruly and loud. She gives them nothing to do, but hit and fight with each other. They probably don’t have a clue how to play a simple card game or checkers. She is just pissing away her children’s childhood with her selfishness. Did it ever occur to her to bring a soccer ball or some balls and plastic bats to give them something to do at the campsites. I think she really thought TLC was going to be the babysitters on this trip. Those poor boys probably have no idea how to play baseball, unless Jon is playing with them when he has them. She is doing nothing to promote their confidence or self worth, from the brushing of teeth in the kitchen, doing hair at the breakfast table, cutting their pancakes, sitting in highchairs at 7.5 years old and eating on institutional divided plastic plates when she isn’t using tons of paper plates. When under her watch these kids don’t have any concept of a family dinner. She rations out the food and “claims” to eat one of her horrific looking salads with zero protein. No wonder she’s bitchy, she’s trying to starve herself. She’s crying near poverty, and now accepting gifts from her twitter fans, of Ipads or kindles, Target gift cards. She is now seen with her 3rd vehicle, but couldn’t guy her kids new backpacks or lunch boxes for school this year. Guess what Kate, we are watching and will report you to the IRS. She waited until the last minute to finally get the kids hair cuts and new shoes for school. It must have absolutely killed her to have to fork over her own money to pay for these items, and not be paid for and filmed by TLC. Just think, the week before she was cancelled she was shopping for trampy dresses in Florida, where the owners were so impressed with Kate (who) they closed their store. How’s that working for you ladies. I think Jamie’s comment about “it’s all about him” referring to Steve is very telling. I think she is sick of Kate’s and Steve’s relationship and it IS more than security related. Why weren’t Gina and their sons on this extended family trip. Surely Gina, if she is such a great friend of Kate’s would have been happy to be with Steve and a few of the kids in another RV. I call BS on the whole (our families are great friends).
Kate thinks she is destined for a TV career. Huh. She has no talent, no “gift of gab”. She is not intelligent by any means, she has done nothing to prepare herself for a better job. She cannot speak intelligently in an interview when she is being questioned. No way can she ask intelligent, informative questions. Every interview is filled with ums and “honestely”. Her interviews has not improved in 5 years. She has no excuse for not taking some college courses on speaking or public relations. Her kids are gone 10 hours a day to go to school an hour away from home.
What will be the first thing Kate gives up. Will she still go to NY via limo with Steve for an “overnight” to get her hair done in a few weeks. Will she start mowing her own grass or closing her own pool. Maybe she can start with doing her own laundry and cleaning a few of her 7 bathrooms. Or maybe she will start by pulling the tups from their private school followed by the twins. The sad thing is these kids have worked all summer, have not had one vacation (working for TLC does not count). Hopefully Jon takes legal action to quietly make sure the children’s earning are safe from Kate and are there in the future.

I agree with your observations of Kate. I somehow do not see her gracefully falling back into obscurity. I think she’s going to fight to the finish to stay in the spotlight. Another show on another network? My only hope is that it is just her and the kids can stay out of the camera’s eye.
