How Do You Find Your Life’s Work?

7

To be honest, I’m not even sure where to start this post really. I guess the best way is just to say that sometimes while you’re searching for your life’s work, it finds you. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still not clear, certain or guaranteed where I’m headed, and I don’t know where the road ends really. What I do know is I am headed in the right direction.

I would say the first, real clue came back in March when I took all of the stuff I had been through over the past five years and put it More >

Ask Rene: My Stepson Is Driving A Wedge Between My Husband And Me!

8

Hi Rene:

My husband and I have been married for five years (second marriage for both of us) and have extremely active, two and three-year old girls. We both work full-time and have adult children. One of them, my 23-year-old stepson, lives with us.

I’ve paid to bail him out of jail, for his community service and his fines. He wears his pants sagging with underwear showing, which I feel is disrespectful to the girls and me. He doesn’t work or attend school, is often rude to me and to say he’s More >

The GEM Debate: The Two-Year Marriage.. Is THIS A Good Idea?

9

Are you a commitment phobe? Worried about buyer’s remorse? Well, we’ve got just the thing for you. How about a two-year marriage? Mexico legislators are proposing just that. Is that such a bad idea? Yeah I said it.

When I read the headline I thought, “NO WAY! What kind of nonsense is this?” But reading a bit more about it, it sort of makes sense. The couple is married for at least two years. At the end of that time, they can decide whether they are happy and “renew” the arrangement; if they More >

Nikki Newman: How Are You Feeling? No, REALLY?

Shhhh. Don’t say it.  Nobody likes to hear it…  That seven-letter word, Illness.

I’m not talking about the sufferer or loved ones; of course none of them wants to hear it. I’m talking about the wider circle, the people on the fringes, though sometimes it can be someone close. Doesn’t matter what it is, whether it’s a common cold, a long-term condition or the Big C, some people can have an adverse reaction to it themselves and go into denial. I’m not saying unsympathetic, just over time it can More >

The GEM Debate: Should Starbucks Crack Down On Squatters?

10

I nearly choked on my homemade Cup o’ Joe this morning when I heard this piece on the TODAY show. Apparently Starbucks is yanking the welcome mat out from under those who come in and stay for hours on end in order to have a place to work. Is that a bad thing or another example of how good companies find themselves in the midst of a sh*t storm? (NetFlix anyone)?

Starbucks built its reputation on good coffee of course, but it was much more than that. It was a welcoming environment where you More >

Keeping Baby Safe At Home: A Word From Good Enough Mother

1

This fall my wonderfully, handsome nephew started college at University of Wyoming. He’s such a great kid; smart and strong, and going to college on a football scholarship. But there was a time, not that long ago, we weren’t sure any of that was going to happen.

Years ago, my sister and her then husband were living in a small apartment where space was at a premium.  Nowhere was that more evident than the kitchen.  It was my oldest nephew’s 3rd birthday and all he wanted was for his mother to More >
