Guest Posting: A Trip To Nike.. Getting To The Soul Of The Sole

0

As you know I am currently out of town on attending another event so Buff and Cole graciously agreed to attend the Nike Young Athletes Innovation Summit while I was away. Here’s a quick look at their day there as told by Buff, and in the coming days (read: when I get home and can pump them for all the information) I’ll have a full and complete post about all the fun they had. In the meantime, enjoy!

Wow!  What a day at an amazing place…everything you’ve ever assumed about Nike’s More >

All Grown Up.. You Sure About That, Buddy?

The note that greeted me on a particularly stressful Monday started this way:

Dear Mom and Dad:

I am not a child anymore. I am 13, not 3. I do not like being treated like a baby because I am not one and I do not act like one. At some point in every parent’s life, they must let their child learn from their own mistakes. I think, along with many other parents and students, that time is now. I’m a grown-up so treat me like one.

There were several other paragraphs, complete with angry More >

How many hats do you get to wear as a mother?  Who knew my hat as television critic was going to be donned in my role as Mommy?  Well, probably anyone who has a child who has to watch hours on end of children’s television and then unwittingly finds themselves in knock out, drag down debates about whether purple dinosaurs or red monsters are a better source of children’s entertainment. The upshot of my Roger Ebert moment is I get to share the review Joelle, my two-year old, and I have of More >

“On Tuesday afternoons, we’d sit for thirty minutes in a musty, guitar-lesson lobby surrounded by a pile of year-old Popular Science magazines and two glaring vending machines which whispered, “Cheetos anyone? Coke? Snickers? Anyone? Anyone?” Like a Groundhog Day movie flashback, I kept repeating to my duckling entourage, “No, honey, not today.” Pelt, pelt, pelt. Baseball practice involved two hours sitting on bleachers adjacent to a well-placed snack shack, the air saturated with the More >

The Mouse And Me: Sailing The Disney Fantasy.. Day 1

Wooo-wee.. I finally slowed down long enough to tell you about a truly magical experience the kids and I had a few weeks ago. Remember I told you we had been invited to set sail on the brand, spanking new Disney Fantasy? Well it was a remarkable as I thought it would be.

You’ll recall I had attended a special, behind-the-scenes technology tour, getting an intimate peek into how it all happens. Then, the next day, I was fortunate enough to attend the Christening of The Fantasy, so setting sail More >

Tandem Tantrums: All Work And No Playtime!

…. Why Reading The Small Print Pays!

When I read the books about this “Mommy gig”, everyone said it wasn’t too easy. I scoffed. I’m one of those “late-in-life” parents who watched all my friends make the mistakes. “That’s them.” I thought confidently… “I can handle it and all its challenges.”

That kind of bravado can only lead to Murphy’s Law – Toddler-Sized.

It started innocently enough. I got a tweet that beckoned me with one, wonderful word, “Playtime!” What parent doesn’t want to hear More >
